The International Press Centre, IPC, Lagos-Nigeria , through its Safety and Protection of Journalists (SPJ) hub condemns the unlawful detention of Olalekan Akindoju , the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun State Council , by Policemen at his residence in Osogbo on Thursday, June 11, 2026.  Speaking via a phone call with the Press Freedom Officer, IPC-SPJ Hub, the affected journalist, Olalekan Akindoju confirmed that the incident occurred around 6a.m at his residence. “They invaded my residence this morning around 6a.m, arrested me and seized my phone without any valid explanation. All attempts to identify myself as a journalist failed, as they refused to listen to me or give me opportunity to call anyone,” Akindoju explained. “I was detained for almost five hours before I was released after the intervention of colleagues and the NUJ . Dwellers of Olojabala , Irepodun , Gbidigbi to Owode-Ede lamented abandoning of their road from Osunjela that leads to Owode-Ede/Osu Express road which has been approved since 2024. They remembered the road especially this week when there was traffic from Ilesa Garage to Osunjela, they complained that if their road had been constructed, it would have served as alternative route. Apart from that, farmers are facing difficulties during this raining season as the condition of the road has gone from bad to worst. Transportation fare from the Osunjela junction has increased because of the condition of the road.
