APPEAL FOR CALM AND COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE REGARDING ALLEGATIONS BY NANS SOUTHWEST ZONE - ARMY PPRO

According to Major Yahay Ibrahim, the Army Public Relations Officer, the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has noted with concern the press release by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Southwest Zone D, regarding alleged misconduct by some army personnel. The Depot wishes to reiterate that the Nigerian Army exists to protect all citizens, especially the youth, who are the future of the nation. Any conduct that falls short of that mandate is unacceptable. No student or law – abiding citizen should ever feel unsafe or be subjected to harassment, intimidation or assault by those entrusted with the security of lives and property.   In line with military regulations and the values of the Nigerian Army, the Commandant has ordered an investigation to ascertain the facts of the incident and bring perpetrators to justice.   The Owalare of Ilare, Oba Adejoro Otebolaku and entire Owalare -in-Council have described the death of Mr Samuel OMOYULENU Fabunmi as a great loss to the Ilare community , describing him as a benevolent personality. A release by the Spokesperson of the community, Dr. Tope Abiola JP , the Odole-Owa of Ilare states that "as the immediate past president of Ilare Development Association (IDA), Mr Omoyulenu tried his best in unifying different groups in the community. Osun NUJ Condemns Rising Political Violence Ahead of Governorship Election

  The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council , has condemned the rising wave of political violence in the state ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election , describing the development as a threat to peace and democracy. The Council expressed concern over the increasing cases of killings, intimidation and destruction of property associated with political activities, warning that the trend could undermine the credibility of the electoral process if not urgently addressed. In a statement by the Osun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin , and the Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju , the Council noted a report from the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), which indicated that 44 election-related violent incidents were recorded across Osun State between October 2025 and June 2026, resulting in 13 deaths.
