School bullying in a growing society

Every human has enough worries to tend to. Our slowly decapitating economy, the government's many endeavors, and the hefty basic necessities in our every-day lives all add up to distress for the human anatomy to digest, and in all these, there are still worrisome issues that society shouldn't have to ponder on, yet there is a deeply rooted crime in every corner. The case of school bullying is expanding rapidly in a growing society.
School bullying is becoming a matter of concern that can no longer be ignored. According to a nation-wide analysis survey of school violence in Nigeria, conducted by the Federal Ministry of Education (2007), physical violence and psychological violence accounted for 85% and 50%, respectively, of the bulk of violence against children in schools. School bullying has gone on to depict society and a school's learning environment as unsafe, building up fear in the hearts of students and shaking the trust of parents in quality and conducive education. It is painful to conclude that violence is now being discovered in schools, perpetuated by pupils said to be the "Leaders of Tomorrow." A large number of these bullies in schools are known to be students in high positions or social classes who instill a feeling of insecurity and powerlessness in their victims.
A closer look at violence in schools points to the role of the media and internet in exposure to violence, promoting violence as double-edged, with much more of a negative effect than a positive one. Some schools also find it difficult to tackle violence with immediate effect, to ward off a bad reputation, and thus violence is treated with leniency; in this case, action is taken when the incident moves to the eye of the public.
School bullying has made more victims than taught bullies the consequences of their actions. Giving support to bullying victims is a step at curbing the evil of violence; support involves tackling the issue with a level of seriousness and discipline. It should not be approached in a hostile manner so as to give the victims assurance of support. Together, parents, society, and the government need to create plans to increase violence awareness in schools. Healthcare and psychological support should be given to the victims to alleviate their worries and pain. Bullies should be referred to a correctional center, a body of administration that schools need to implement, and if need be, the law should be applied.
Also, social media's influence has nonetheless greatly contributed to paving the way for fighting against school bullying. Lead British International School Abuja bullying incident is one that stole the country's interest and raised awareness about school bullying. This brought us to the question: What really are the efforts a school's administration puts in place to discourage any form of violence?
Bullying should be dealt with the utmost attention to prevent difficulties in the future for both victims and perpetrators. We can improve their lives and build back the trust of society in education by working towards enhancing a safe environment for learning.
