Unexpected wonderful performance of Senator Ademola Adeleke in Osun State, what next?

 By Olayinka Awofadeju

Senator Ademola Adeleke could be seen as rejected corner stone who is doing wonders in Osun State. In less than two years in office as Osun State Governor, he has done uncountable things in term of development.

To mention but a few, beautification of Osun State in terms of dualization of roads, repair of bad roads, reconstruction of existing road and construction of many new roads both within the towns and in villages. Many roads have been approved and are in the budget for year 2024 which governor is waiting to complete those ongoing projects before embarking on the new ones.

Illuminating towns and villages with supply of transformers under Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, many towns can testify to this that governor Ademola Adeleke has saved them from contributing to buy transformers and payment for installations.

Regular payment of salaries to civil servants in Osun State, even the pensioners are enjoying regular payment of their pension and gratuity.

Enrolment of disabled people, pensioners and members of the state into Osun State Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS). This will reduce amount spent on health treatment yearly by the people living in Osun State.

Repair and equipping the health centers across the state. Gone are the days when health centers were death traps, without medicines and necessary kits to use in treating the patients, but governor Ademola Adeleke has made all these, things of the past. People are now enjoying good facilities provided by the governor at health centers across the state.

Tourist centers in Osun State have been revisited and revitalised by the state government under the Hon. Taiwo Adeleke, Chairman tourism board. The chairman has active in this area to complement the hard work of governor of Osun State.

Yet, like Oliver Twist, people are eagerly waiting and asking when the state government will conduct mass employment in the state? Since November 2010 to November 2022, APC government conducted no serious employment in Osun State, apart from Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) where they subjected University graduates and Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to be cutting grasses and be paid ten thousand naira monthly which they were even owing them the payment.

Now, it is going to almost two years governor Ademola Adeleke came to office as governor of Osun State, Osun State people are eagerly waiting to see when the government under People Democratic Party will conduct mass employment in the state. All higher institutions, hospitals, health centers, local governments and governor's office (Abere) are using part-time staff with meager payments which can't take them home.

What's the essence of beautiful health centers and hospitals without qualified hands, beautiful looking schools and higher institutions without enough full time staff to run the affairs of the schools, government offices like local government and governor office (secretariat)?

These people used as labour (part-time) are graduates and have families take care, they too need to benefit what the full staff are benefitting as members of the state who are contributing to the development of the state.

Recently, people applied for teachers in the state, but nobody heard any development on it again. Many reactions are coming from different quarters, some said governor want to use the employment for campaign in 2026, while some said both APC and PDP are the same. Some have even lost hope in the government completely because they are gradually growing beyond employable age.

One of the importance of mass employment is that, it will reduce the pain through the economy challenge facing the masses. Graduates since 2010 till date are jobless, retirees and those died on the job were not replaced. This is across the state and Osun people are calling the governor to do the needful to make life easy for them.
