Odole Tope Abiola and Seyi Falope Bag Justice Of Peace Awards
Two prominent indigenes of Ilare Ilare , Obokun Local Government area of Osun State, Chief (Dr) Tope Abiola and Mr Seyi Falope were on Thursday conferred with the Justice of Peace Awards by the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke
Dr. Abiola is the Odole-Owa of Ilare, he is the Spokesperson of the community through the Owalare in Council. He has served in various capacities in Ilare Development Association for over 30 decades.
He is a former Councilor and Supervisory Councilor for Works in Obokun Local Government. He has served on the Board of Osun State Environmental Protection Agency (OSEPA) and presently, he is on the Board of Osun State Teaching Service Commission .
He is a Community Leader, Media Practitioner and an Advocate of Culture and Tradition. Abiola is a devout Catholic.
Mr Seyi Falope is a very Senior Officer in the State Ministry of Lands, he is an astute administrator and committed Ilare indigene.
The Justice of Peace is bestowed on distinguished personalities. Outstanding men of integrity who have contributed immensely to community development and administration.
While speaking at the inauguration, the Governor declared that the appointment is in line with Section 14 of the Magistrate's Law of the State.
He charged the awardees to maintain peace and order in the state. He enjoined the newly inaugurated JP to make use of the Rule of Law in their operations, adding that they should embrace fairness and objectivity in their discharge of duties
The Governor warned the awardees to shun anti-social behaviours like corruption, assults etc.
He noted that the functions of a Justice of the Peace (JP) in Nigeria include the following:
Administration of Oaths and Affidavits
A Justice of the Peace can administer oaths, affirmations, and certify affidavits for official purposes.
Certification of Documents
They may certify copies of important documents as true copies of the originals. Witnessing Legal Documents, A JP can witness the signing of legal documents and declarations.
Maintenance of Peace and Order
They help in promoting peace, reconciliation, and harmony within the community.
Mediation and Settlement of Minor Disputes
A Justice of the Peace may assist in settling minor disagreements between individuals through mediation.
Issuance of Warrants (in Some Cases)
In certain jurisdictions and under specific laws, a JP may assist in issuing warrants or handling minor judicial duties.
Community Service and Advisory Role
They serve as respected community representatives who advise citizens on lawful conduct and civic responsibilities.
Support to the Judicial System
A JP helps reduce pressure on regular courts by handling simple administrative and quasi-judicial matters.
Attestation of Statutory Declarations
They may attest to statutory declarations required for official and legal transactions.
Promotion of Justice at the Grassroots Level
They help ensure access to basic legal and administrative services within.
