Oduafest 2024 : Gov. Adeleke says Odudua culture is the richest in the world

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has disclosed that Oduduwa culture is the richest in the world which any parent can bequeath to the younger generation.

The Governor made this known in Osogbo, the State Capital, during the maiden edition of Oduduwa Festival, 2024, organized by Osun State Tourism Board and Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria, (FTAN), Southwest.

Governor Adeleke, who spoke through his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, assured people of the state and participants at the event that his administration is targeting tourism together with cultural industry as a money spinner to replace reliance on federal allocation, stressing that his administration's strategy is to earn billion of dollars revenue from the sector.

The state helmsman, while appreciating the Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN) and Osun State Tourism Board, enjoined all Yorubas to embrace their culture and ensure that it is transferred to generations yet unborn.

Chairman, Osun State Tourism Board, Hon. Taiwo Adeleke, in his opening remarks, appreciated the state government under the able leadership of Governor Adeleke and FTAN, Southwest, for making the programme a reality. He further explained that the 3 days event is targeted towards promoting regional tourism, economic expansion and development.

In their separate remarks, FTAN President, Nkereuwem Onung, who was represented by Ambassador Gbenga Sunday, the FTAN Vice President, South West, Mr. Tunde Kolade, and Professor Wasiu Babalola, stressed that the programme was the first of its kind in the entire Southwest region, adding that the region is the most blessed with culture, history and natural beauty in Nigeria, acknowledging that the Southwest holds abundance of opportunities for development.

In her closing remark, the General Manager, Osun State Tourism Board, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ajayi appreciated the State Government, stakeholders, and all participants at the memorable event for their support in making Oduafest 2024 a success. She then solicited for more support and cooperation to promote Odudua culture to an enviable level in the country and beyond.

The programme, which was graced by traditionalists across the Southwestern states, the management and staff of Osun State Tourism Board and Council for Art and Culture among others featured presentation of drama,, display of pictures of Yoruba cultural heritage like adire, ileke (breeds ), local hair styles, egungun (masquerade) dance, among other cultural dances from various groups of dancers.
