The Osun State Government has once again demonstrated its deep-rooted commitment to cultural preservation and traditional values by participating actively in the 2025 edition of the Iwopopo traditional cleansing ritual, which marks the official commencement of the annual Osun Osogbo Festival.

Speaking during the event in Osogbo, the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Bankole Ojo Abiodun, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to promoting and supporting cultural heritage. He extended warm greetings to the people of Osogbo, congratulating them on the privilege of witnessing yet another edition of the globally recognized festival.

Hon. Bankole applauded the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke for prioritizing cultural promotion and assured residents of the administration’s continued support for tourism and traditional institutions. He also urged the people of Osun to rally behind Governor Adeleke for a successful second term.

The Iwopopo ritual, a significant spiritual cleansing of the town, is a time-honored tradition that signals the start of the Osun Osogbo celebrations. The event attracted key traditional stakeholders, including community leaders, traditional chiefs, and members of the Ataoja-in-Council, who all paid homage to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun.

Also in attendance were the management and staff of the Osun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Osun State Tourism Board, and the Osun State Council for Arts and Culture. Their presence underscored the government’s all-round commitment to sustaining the rich cultural legacy of the state.
