UNBELIEVABLE! FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES REJECTING NECO RESULT FROM CANDIDATES

ATTENTION: JAMB and NECO Registrars

A press release by Adebisi Ishola from Centre for Indigent Children Education (CICE) on 28th September, 2025 revealed the agony being inflicted on admission seekers into the Federal Universities in Nigeria by the rejection of NECO results has indeed called for the urgent attention of stakeholders in the education sector. Countless number of aspiring students are deliberately being denied admission opportunity with their rejection of the newly released NECO results!

The established norm in the admission process into regular programmes in any university is the combination of UTME result with O' Level result or any of its equivalents.

Prospective admission seekers are given opportunity to apply for admission, using Awaiting O' Level result, hoping for subsequent upload when the result is released.

Unfortunately, many Federal Universities, exploited and extorted indigent and innocent students, by luring them to apply for their programmes only to eventually deny them admission. These innocent students who had used Awaiting Results were consequently subjected to go through post UTME Screening exercise. But, surprisingly, the students, after passing the Screening were denied admission. They simply, albeit, wickedly closed the school portal against the students.

University of Ilorin and Federal University, Oye Ekiti, among others, are culpable of this admission abracadabra.

In the ongoing 2025/2026 admission exercise in Unilorin, all prospective indigent admission seekers who applied to the institution, using NECO Awaiting Results, are being denied admission. This is after the aspirants had been made to pay charges for the post UTME Screening and were made to risk their lives traveling from all over the country for the post UTME examination in the institution. This practice is considered an open-day robbery and a deliberate denial of right to education. It's also a deliberate attempt to subvert the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is indeed criminal and the Minister of Education should urgently address the scandal. While will the examination timetable accommodate WASSCE and reject the alternative - NECO.

The attention of JAMB Registrar is hereby called to this unwholly practice that is capable of dragging his image and the image of the Board in the mud. The rapacious universities managers should not be allowed to continue with this wicked and unholy act.

The Registrar Sir, NECO needs to equally do a yeoman's job to protect the sanctity and integrity of its results before parents and students stop patronising it; and before this practice leads to avoidable litigation.

It is as if there is no coordination among all examination bodies in the country. For instead, the deliberate closure of the portal by the University of Ilorin on the 4th of September, 2025, prevented the upload of 2025 NECO results that were released on the 17th of September, and ultimately denied numerous aspirants who had anxiously been waiting for the NECO result to process their admissions.

Interestingly, these students had filled 'Awaiting Result' in the information submitted to the concerned universities for the admission and the institutions accepted their applications. Had these students been informed that applicants with 'Awaiting Results' would not be considered for the admission, the admission seekers would have sought for other available alternatives!

To save the Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders from an imminent litigation and embarrassment, the concerned universities should be called to order and the Portal for uploading of results be reopened.

Should any student who secure the required score in the UTME and passed post UTME screening be denied admission due to this infraction from the concerned universities, litigation may be the only option.
