Osun Govt Sets Plan to Upgrade Erin-Ijesha Waterfall to International Standard

The Osun State Government has unveiled its intention to upgrade the historic Erin-Ijesha Waterfall in Oriade Local Government Area to an international-standard tourist destination.

This commitment was made known by the Chairman of the Osun Tourism Board, Hon. Taiwo Adeleke, during an official visit of the board’s management team to the site.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Hon. Adeleke emphasized that the initiative aligns with the administration’s five-point agenda, which prioritizes tourism revitalization as a major contributor to the state’s economic growth. He explained that transforming the waterfall will generate substantial income and foster development across Osun State.

Hon. Adeleke appealed to the people of Erin-Ijesha through the Akinla of Erin-Ijesha, Oba Isaac Adeyeba Ayodeji, soliciting their maximum cooperation. He noted that the success of the project depends largely on community support and the shared vision to elevate the site to global recognition.

"Since 2022, Erin-Ijesha Waterfall has been under the management of the host community, following years of neglect. However, the Osun Tourism Board is now ready to take full charge to ensure that the site receives the professional oversight needed to improve its facilities and expand its tourism value", he concluded.

Addressing the visiting team, Oba Ayodeji expressed appreciation to the state government for revisiting the waterfall, which he described as the town’s most valuable natural resource. He lamented the long period of abandonment, noting that the people had been eagerly waiting for the government’s intervention to unlock the site’s economic potential.

The monarch stressed that developing the waterfall would not only attract tourists but also create jobs and boost the socio-economic well-being of the entire community. He encouraged the government to act swiftly and assured them of the town’s cooperation.

In separate remarks, the chiefs of Erin-Ijesha and Tourism Board members Alhaji Folawiyo Adepoju and Hon. Kehinde Adebayo urged residents to see the state government as a development partner. They called for unity and collective effort to ensure the project succeeds and yields meaningful results for the town and Osun State at large.
