The Osun State Government has reiterated its commitment to developing the Adire industry through a comprehensive value chain approach aimed at creating jobs, generating wealth and promoting shared prosperity across the state.
Governor Ademola Adeleke made this known in Osogbo, the State Capital, at the Adire Osun Export Summit and Fashion Culture, where he described Adire as a priceless cultural asset that had been neglected for decades, despite its enormous economic potential.
The governor noted that his administration has resolved to reclaim the heritage of Adire by repositioning it as a viable business sector capable of contributing significantly to the state’s economy, adding that government is ready to collaborate with stakeholders to achieve this goal.
According to Adeleke, the summit was designed to expose participants to the vast business and economic opportunities within the Adire sector, stressing that the government’s plan is to grow the Adire value chain from production to marketing and export.
He explained that the initiative goes beyond the construction of industrial buildings for Adire makers, as the administration is also investing in the development of basic raw materials, introducing Adire and textile courses in tertiary institutions, providing modern textile equipment, establishing industrial facilities and strengthening export infrastructure.
The governor further disclosed that a comprehensive stakeholders’ implementation plan for the Adire industry would be unveiled in 2026 to guide coordinated development and sustainable growth of the sector.
In separate remarks, the Chairman of the Osun State Council for Arts and Culture, Hon. Ebenezer Adeniji, and the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Oluyemisi Ajibade, commended the Adeleke-led administration for its support toward the successful hosting of the Adire Osun 2025 Carnival and its determination to revive the Adire industry in the state.
They revealed that the government has concluded plans to establish Adire hubs at the Council for Arts and Culture office in Osogbo, Ile-Ife and Ede towns, to serve as consultation and investment centres for buyers and investors, as the two-day event concluded with a colourful town parade across Osogbo.
Present at the epoch making event were; the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, top government officials, Adire producers, buyers and sellers, among others.
