AKIRE OF IKIRELAND OBA OLATUNDE FALABI PASSES AWAY AT 91
The revered traditional ruler of Ikireland, Oba Olatunde Falabi born on January 20, 1935, passed away on Feburuary 28, 2026. at the age of 91.
The Monarch, Oba Olatunde Falabi who was a pharmacist, entrepreneur and farmer by profession before ascending the throne in May 1993. died on February 28, 2026 after a brief illness.
Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State, described Oba Falabi's death as "end of an era" and a collosal loss to Ikireland and Nigeria.
According to reports, Oba Olatunde Falabi's body was brought to Ikire and taken to the palace on March 23, 2026. The burial ceremony is Scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
His over 30-year reign was marked by peace, community progress, and efforts to preserve traditional values while embracing modern advancements.
Oba Olatunde Falabi was installed as the Akire of Ikireland in may 1993 and reigned for over three decades, leaving a lasting impact on Ikireland and its people.
During his reign, Ikireland witnessed significant developments, including the establishment of College of Humanities of Osun State University and the emergence of Benedict Alabi, an Indigene as deputy governor of Osun State.
Oba Falabi was known for promoting peace, cultural preservation and community progress, earning him respect and admiration from his people.
The news of his passing has been met with tributes from across Osun state and beyond, with traditional rulers, political leaders and residents reflecting on his enduring contributions.
The Irewole local government has previously declared a period of mourning describing the late monarch Oba Olatunde Falabi as an irreplaceable pillar of the community.
