Media Practitioners Should Have Zero Tolerance for Fake News, Governor Adeleke Urges NUJ Newly Elected Executive

 


Newly elected executive of Osun State Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) and members of the union paid courtesy visit to Osun State governor, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke at the government house today at government house.

The visit was the first ever since emergence of the new executive of the Osun State NUJ Council. The newly elected chairman Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin appreciated Governor Ademola Adeleke for his support for the pen profession (NUJ) since begining of his tenure and receiving them for the visit.

Mr. Governor hails the emergence of the newly elected executive of the union (NUJ), said it is a call to duty.  Mr. Governor promised to work with the new executive as he did worked with the past executive of the union. He commended the new leadership of NUJ for the proposal promised to be passed across to him on how to hold free and fair Governorship election come August 15th.

Mr. Governor encouraged media practitioners to work against fake news, engage in investigative journalism to expose rigging plans by the politicians, uphold ethics of the profession, and should have zero tolerance for fake news.

He encouraged them to ensure balance news coverage, observant of relevant laws both from federal and state. Media should campaign against electoral malpractices and hold the three tiers of government accountable.

Governor saw the visitation as an opportunity for the government to partner with NUJ to have a good governance in Osun State.  He directed the commissioner of information and public enlightenment Hon. Kolapo Alimi and governor's spokesperson Mallam Rasheed Olawale to get the proposal and implement it.

Present there are Chairman of Osun State NUJ Council, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, Secretary of the Council, Zonal Secretary Alhaji Alege Abdulrasak, The manager for News and Current Affairs, OSBC, Mr. Abiodun Olalere, Secretary of the NUJ Council, Olalekan Akindoju Treasurer, Saheed Adegboye, Chairman NUJ Federated Chapel, Dr. Peter Olayinka AWOFADEJU and many other chapel chairmen and members of the profession.
