Osun Guber: Gov. Adeleke Should be Proactive Against Manipulative Strategies of INEC, Fake Security, Political Thugs
Dr. Peter Olayinka AWOFADEJU a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Joseph Ayo Babalola University and a known journalist has called on the Osun State Governor, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke to be proactive and be courteous against federal government machineries (INEC and Security) and opposition sponsored thugs during the coming gubernatorial election .
Dr. Awofadeju, has advised the Osun State Governor not to fully trust the Independent National Electoal Commission (INEC) and all the forms of security that will be brought to the state to secure and monitor the process.
Dr. Awofadeju called the attention of Governor Adeleke to the past experience on how INEC and security promised free and fair election, but eventually carried out the mandate of the federal government. Osun State 2018 governorship election was a good example. Inconclusive declared and thugs were used to scare electorates away at the concluding day which security were only observing and couldn't curb the atrocities.
As INEC released details of governorship candidates in Osun State and the name of the incumbent governor appeared, opposition party members were not happy which may call for the activation of plan 'B'. Plan B could be using of federal machineries against the wish of Osun people in which our votes may not count.
Note that 'he who plays the piper, dictate the tune." Security are under the federal government and INEC Chairman was appointed by the same federal government, the coming gubernatorial election may be incumbent governor against the federal government.
Also, plan B may be using of sponsored political thugs and fake security personnel. These set of people may scare electorates away from voting or snatching ballot boxes. They can even cause violence with the knowledge that results of those places would not be counted. 2018 governorship election is a good case study for this.
While talking, Dr. Awofadeju said during the time of former governor of Kogi State, Yaya Bello, many uniformed personnel were seen using security vehicles to snatch ballot boxes. This should be guided against before August 15th of this month.
Governor Adeleke and his cabinet should lias with trust worthy security bosses on how they can make the election free and fair to boost confidence of all the electorates so as to come out in mass to cast their votes.
If these can be curbed, the coming gubernatorial election in Osun State will be free and fair in which the candidate voted for would be announced as winner of the election.
