Osun Osogbo Festival: Adeleke Seeks Osogbo Residents' Support for his Re-election Bid

Thousands of devotees, tourists and culture enthusiasts on Friday besieged the sacred Osun-Osogbo Grove as the grand finale of the 2026 Osun Osogbo Festival climaxed in a carnival of colour, spirituality and royalty.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, congratulated the Ataoja and the people of Osogbo for sustaining the UNESCO heritage festival. He said his administration is committed to taking development to every nook and cranny of the state.

The Governor listed his administration's intervention in the culture and tourism sector, noting that culture remains a strong driver of economy and job creation for Osun youths.

He recalled that at last year’s festival, he promised to reconstruct the long-abandoned road leading to the Osun Grove, saying the promise has been fulfilled with the road now completed and commissioned. He assured that more iconic projects would still be delivered before the end of his tenure.

Also the Governor, through his deputy, seized the moment to solicit the support of the crowd and the entire people of Osun for his re-election bid in the August 15 governorship poll, urging them to reward performance with votes.

Earlier in his royal blessings, the Ataoja of Osogbo land, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, offered fervent prayers for peace, prosperity and bountiful harvest for Osun and Nigeria, and prayed that the Governor will return next year to celebrate the festival as a re-elected governor.

Dignitaries present included the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Abiodun Ojo; Hon Taiwo Adeleke, chairman Osun Tourism Board, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams; the founder of Nike Art Gallery, who also doubles as the Agbasaga yeye aladire- Aro of Osun State, Chief Nike Davies-Okundaye, Director General National Commission for Museum and Monuments, Mr Olugbile Holloway represented by Mr Olusola Opadiran the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheik Musa Animasaun, the Arabia of Osogbo, and the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, who was represented by high chiefs of Ijesaland, Olufon of Ifon Orolu, Oba Peter Ipadeola, management and staff of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Osun Council for Art and Culture and Osun Tourism board, among others.

The festival was colourful with cultural performances and traditional rites at the grove.

Osun NUJ Inaugurates Exco for Federated Chapel

The inauguration took place on 3rd September, 2025 at NUJ Press Center , Osogbo .
